Family law

Divorce, separation and arrangements for children — handled with as little heat as the situation allows.

Where we can help

Family matters are rarely only legal problems. We try to keep the legal part simple so you have room to deal with the rest.

Court is usually the last resort

Most matters settle without a hearing, and the ones that settle early cost a fraction of the ones that don’t. We’ll always tell you when mediation or a round-table meeting is the better route — even though it means less work for us.

What it costs

Family work can’t always be fixed-priced, because it depends on how the other side behaves. What we can do is be straight about the range and agree a cap before we pass it.

StageTypical cost (excl. VAT)
First meeting (60 minutes)£120
Uncontested divorce, start to finish£750–£1,100
Consent order drafting£550
Separation agreement£650–£900
Contested financesHourly, capped by agreement

How the first meeting works

An hour, in person or by video. You tell us what’s happened, we tell you what your realistic options are, roughly what each would cost, and how long each would take. You leave with a written summary. There’s no obligation to instruct us afterwards, and plenty of people don’t need to.

Children

Where children are involved, the court’s starting point is what’s best for them rather than what either parent wants. We’ll be direct with you about how that usually plays out, which sometimes means telling clients things they’d rather not hear. It’s cheaper to hear it from us early than from a judge later.
